My Parents Made Me This Way!
My parents ALWAYS encouraged my music while growing up. They bought me drums and guitars... all while somehow managing to survive my practicing them quite loudly for many years. I don't know how.
I'm sure it's because they never expected that I would write lyrics such as... "You know some babysitters raised me, coz my parents were both crazy" or...
"I should have seen it comin' with you screamin' at your kids, that made me uneasy coz that's what my momma did, yea, she tortured my old man 'til the day he passed away." And no... my father has not passed away; he's alive and well. And no... they didn't leave me at the ages of 5 and 10 respectively as the song "That's Cold" suggests.
Despite all the craziness of growing up, our home always had laughter. The best part of them that I received was probably a ridiculous sense of humor. Not only do you need it to get through life, you definitely need it to write an album like Smiles and Tribulations. This album is all about getting through those valleys with whimsy verses defeat. Yea, my parents made me this way; and I'm sure glad they did! Enjoy.
